Pantone® Colours
Pantone colours are a swatch set with hundreds of colours to choose from.

Perfect Binding
A squared off edge with scored hinges for ease of opening and glued in pages.

Pageview
A pageview - a single screen of content - refers to the sum total of what a user sees in a browser window. Before frames came along, pageviews were a hell of a lot easier to explain and to track: the page you saw was one simple page of content. But frame-based pages are comprised of a whole mess of documents.

Pixel (picture element)
The smallest unit that a device can address.

Platform
A computer operating system such as Sun, Unix, Windows, or Macintosh.

Plug-ins
Small applications that add new functionality, multimedia, or audio-video capability to a program.

POP-UP window
A pop-up window is a small browser window that is activated by a mouseover or double-click of an image or button in an existing browser window. Pop-ups can be outfitted with all or none of the the usual browser "chrome" (location bar, navigations buttons, etc.).

Photography
The art of taking photographs for web and print.

Postscript
The brand name of a software standard created by Adobe. It is a page description language which is used by most graphics software and output devices to combine text, pictures and graphical elements into an electronic document and create output which can be used by the printer.

Print
A picture or design reproduced, usually on paper and often in numerous copies, from a prepared wood block, metal plate, or stone slab.

Printing Plate
The physical plate which carries the image. These can be made from a variety of materials. At the cheaper end of the market there are paper plates which are designed to be used once and thrown away. They are very economic for short runs such as small quantities of stationery.

POP3 (Post Office Protocol, version 3)
A POP3 server acts as your email Post Office. You use an email client, like Eudora or those built-in to Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer, to retrieve your mail to your local drive using the POP3 protocol.

Port
To translate a computer application into another computer languages o it can be read on another operating system, or platform.

Portal
As in the real world, a portal on the Internet grants you access to other places - in this case, other Internet sites.

PMS (Pantone Matching System):
A standard color-matching system used by printers and graphic designers for inks, papers, and other materials. A PMS color is a standard color defined by percentage mixtures of different primary inks.

Point
A measurement used in typography for type size, leading, and other space specifications in a page layout. There are 12 points in a pica, and approximately 70 points to an inch.
